What a difference a couple of letters make .... 140-160

I finally gave my '74 144 a xmas present and got around to getting it tuned (I have only had it 5 months ... lol)

I thought it was running "a little" rich - in fact it was off the scale on the exhaust analyser right across the rev range ! This was using the GK needles in the SUs that the previous owner had put in it.

Had a dig a round in the box of spares that came with the car, and lo & behold there was a pair of KD needles in a plastic envelope :o)

Put them in & took it back for a re-tune ..... just a minor improvement, as the attached plot shows - it's a different car altogether now !

Still "not quite right" at idle, but I think I have a vacuum leak to the manifold from the heater vent control system. I'll block that hose off & see what happens.

Basic specs :
- 1974 B20B, with B20E head
- twin HS6 carbs on standard 1-piece manifold
- D cam
- 2.25" exhaust

For reference, 100km/h in 4th is ~3400-3450rpm.

Ahhh, ain't that nice? :) I want to get my car back on the dyno to see how it runs with a few more miles of wear and tear(especially on the valvetrain), but proper timing. I'm curious as to if I should richen it up a bit more as well. Although, I'm not sure if it's worth it when I don't really have any money and the engine's somewhat on it's last legs. Who knows. We'll see.

Now we just need to get those numbers converted to something I know!

The KDs are a lot leaner than the GKs .....

Max power is 75kW at the wheels = roughly 100hp

By my calcs, the torque is approx 200Nm (4th gear, 4.1:1 diff, 205/65x15 tyres) - although I need to check I have calculated it correctly

Cool. And it seems people aren't taking notice to your thread title or something, I would've thought this would've gathered a few more replies... Well, here's a bump to the top.

Happy New Year!
