The impeller definitely looks different and stamped, and it's definitely not the same overall as the original pump that came off of my '90 240. I've pulled off some newer style, yet well used Volvo water pumps and the stamped impeller seems fine after lots of use.

From my limited experience, it seems that the weak link in a water pump is either the bearings or seals. In those categories, I'd rather put my money on the Volvo pump. Though, I'd love to hear other's experiences.
