1991 Volvo 240 - new noise

What you describe is definitely worn bushings. Don't put off getting it repaired. In fact, coming up on 200k miles, it would be a very good idea to have bushings renewed on all four corners. If you have a shop do it, expect to pay for about 8 manhours. Parts are readily available for your car and relatively inexpensive.
