Driving with OD engaged? 200

I had intermittent problems with the OD engaging so I looked at the relay, whose solder was cracked and missing in one spot. I replaced it, and got my OD back and working for 4 days; then the dreaded OD arrow came on and will not go off. There must be a new problem.

I'm hunting down a used solenoid and I'll check the wiring over the weekend. But in the meantime, is it OK to drive around (and to work) with the overdrive engaged?

It's probably just a bad relay ... I've seen a couple go bad in the last 100k miles.

Klaus nailed it - arrow just means you have OD disengaged. No big deal, I drove for 6 months like that. I wouldn't be afraid to do 70/75mph sustained, you'll just have more noise, crummy milage, and over the long term, more engine wear.

Forget the solenoid, buy IPD's bypass plate or make your own - how often do you disengage the OD anyway?

Actually, when the arrow is on, the overdrive is disengaged. That means you will not get 4th gear. Drive all you want, you just pay more when you get gas.
