clarification... 120-130

my apologies in advance for the lengthy post...

first, Kombi, thanks for being the first to clarify the spelling. I have, in turn, been able to do quite a bit more meaningful research on the Dell'Orto's...

second, you're absolutely right that my question was too vague to frame a specific response...

-----Driving------
My intended use for my 122 after the engine swap will be commuting 25 miles/day 5 days/week (mountains), local weekend jaunts, and possible occasional SCCA competition (still undecided). I drive fast, emphasis on turning and smooth lines on mountain roads (my stock suspension is scheduled for a serious overhaul, ala progressive springs, poly bushings, etc). I'm not interested in strip runs per se, though I do enjoy a getting pushed into the back of my seat at a red light on occasion.

-----Engine-----
I have put a deposit on a rebuilt B20:
1972
0 miles
rebuilt in 2005
IPD 2130cc kit
IPD street perf cam kit
1973 B20 F.I. head
(plugged injectors)
mild porting
double valve springs

-----Dell'Orto's----
The pair of Dell'Orto's are being offered by the seller of the engine. This guy has been a 122 enthusiast for 20 years and is now parting his collection (what's left will be on ebay once he's done with locals). He's decided to persue a new hobby: classic mini coopers.

He had this engine built by a local shop 2 years ago for his project car and it's been sitting, sealed, in his garage since he brought it home. In the meantime he's been piecing together the rest of his car.

He bought the Dell'Orto's planning on putting them on this engine, but in the meantime he came across a Volvo-R Solex set, in rough shape, which he'd "planned on using instead, for the novelty factor."

As far as specifics on the Dell'Orto's, I can't say for sure.

Looking around the net, does it sound approximately correct that the appropriate Dell'Orto's for this 2130cc application would be DHLA 45's with ~38mm chokes?

I have gathered that if I do go with the Dell'Orto's I'll likely need to pay a visit to an Alfa shop to have them properly tuned.

Parts availability is a concern, though there does seem to still be at least one active supplier/specialist in the UK.

-----Options-----
I don't currently have a set of carbs to put on this new 2130. I've got the pair of SU's on my tired B18, and though it's hard for me to pinpoint the lack of performance at the wheels with particular worn parts of the power system, I can comfortably say that the SU's are not in "tip top shape."

While the Mikuni set from VPD *sounds* good, it carries a hefty price. I have experience with the downdraft Webber conversion and while performance was satisfactory on my stock-build B20 of the time, I don't think that would be an appropriate selection for the engine I've described.

From the response here and what I've now been able to find on the net, it seems that if the Dell'Orto's are both a) the correct model for this application, and b) in as good of condition as I've been led to believe, that they may be a good choice for my car:

Again, I'm not looking to optimize every single ounce of pent up power in this engine, I'm not doing any *serious* racing, I just want to have fun.

These carbs may be just the right amount of performance and novelty factor...

----------

If anyone has any additional input I would greatly appreciate it. As it stands I'm going to pay a visit to the engine builder tomorrow to verify the work and components that the seller has assured me, and if all goes well I'll pick up the engine (and carbs) on Tuesday.
