If it is an automatic, it seems there might be an issue with the Overdrive relay or wiring. However, if it is an auto trans car, have her push the button on the side of the shift handle. In an auto, the up arrow isn't a "warning", it is just saying that the overdrive is locked out, either by the button on the side of the shifter, or a bad relay and or wiring.
