240 Fender Removal 200 1991

Some lovely lady smashed her SUV into my 1991 240 sedan earlier this evening, and I need to know how hard it is to remove the front passanger side fender, and attach the new one. I really dont want to have to resort to a body shop, since the woman was really nice about it and I want to keep the costs as low as I can, so any help in this matter would be appreciated. Best case scenario is that I get a junkyard fender painted and attach it myself. I hope this can be realized. Thanks in advance for any help.

FWIW, get new clips for the rocker panel trim and the fender trim. Your dealer has them and FCP Groton carries them too, they're like 40c apiece. I think it's 13 of them for the rocker trim. You'll be glad you got them and did it right.

www.lampsanlenses.com carries all the front end plastic for these cars, grilles as well. The prices are as reasonable as you'll find anywhere. Don't settle for less than putting the car back the way it was before the accident.

Good luck with the work.

Pretty easy. I did it on my 81 with no prior experience. Getting the beltline trim piece back on was more hassle than it seemed like it should be. I used all new clips, and, if I remember correctly, installed the clips into the fender holes, then slid the trim piece over the clips starting at the front, then put the little cap on the end of the trim piece. The fender was $65. I cut the short welded section below the lights with a sharp chisel I think. That's probably not the way the pros would do it, but it worked fine on the 81.

ditto per the other replies. it is a pretty simple job. if you can locate online a yard with a wreck of the same color all the easier. oxidation differs of course per car but if yours' isn't red there shouldn't be too great a difference if the wrecked car lived in similar latitudes to yours.

try here for a larger sample of yards near you aso you can use the phone.

Pretty easy. There may be a spot weld below the turn lamps that you'll need to drill/slice through.

The screws by the door hinge can be a pain if seized. Mine were philips head which slipped (replaced with 10mm bolts). So had to lift interior cladding to remove attached bracket.

it's pretty simple, there are a few bolts... if you have any kind of repair manual it will show you a cross section of where they are.

seems like a pretty straight forward swap - forget the body shop.

there are several spot welds near the turn signal area.

locate them & drill out starting with a small bit and work up to a larger bit.

issue: your new fender will have the same holes drilled out.

dont paint the entire fender before you attach it to the car! it's not done that way. just cut in the edges with your color. attach fender. fix spot weld holes. then, paint fender.

you'll save big if you can find same color fender as others noted. it'll still have holes.

but, most important, would be to focus your energy on finding a PERFECT fender -color unimportant.

i have to do the same thing this spring, i feel your pain.

either way, the lady is going to have to pay. and, if your doing the bulk of the work, have her pay to get it painted properly. get something in writing ASAP.

The hardest part is to remove the lower trim, at the bottom. The one that runs from the fender, under the door, up to before the rear wheel.
