head gasket was the problem 700 1989

Same thing happened to my '88 turbo. Head gasket blew out in the same spot and engine sounded like a bearing was knocking. I suspect it's just the way the fireing order happens in relation to the positions of first and second pistons. The pressure leaks into the adjacent cylinder past the blown gasket and causes a "gas knock" sound. Mine was more noticable at lower speeds. You should now be OK for another 150K miles or so.
