Max sometimes you have to purge air out of the cooling system. A brief excursion into the H zone won't hurt a thing, especially not a new head gasket. Make sure it is full of water, disconnect a heater hose at the firewall and burp the air out. Run it again. If the head is cracked, and I doubt it is, there will be far more telling symptoms after you run it for a while. If no symptoms show up, drive it and forget it.
