I did this over the winter. The first side was hard. The second side went off w/o a hitch.
Before hand, be sure you have a big rivet to switch out the top window pivot. 1/4" rivets are fine. The four rivets to attach the rubber to the frame MUST be flat otherwise the side window will bind up.
Installation is very straightforward once you;ve done one, but I'll run through the whole process.
First take the door panels off. Lower the side window to the bottom and remove the two top screws (up by the vent window) and the lower screw (down at the bottom of the window channel). Volvo was nice enough to put a hole in the right spot so the lower screw is easy to access.
The tricky part is that you must pry out the top/front of the side window channel. It is hard to do without damaging it, but you'll need to be as careful as possible.
Once the channel is part-way or fully out at the front/top corner, the vent window assembly can be pivoted back and the whole thing will come out of the door. DON'T loose that rubber corner block! No need to remove anything else from the door. I mistakenly removed the chrome shoulder trim and it is *hard* to get back on correctly!
On your workbench, drill out the rivets and remove the securing nut from the bottom pivot. Notice that it is bent? DO NOT straighten it!
Drill out the top pivot rivet and remove the glass vent from the outer frame.
Strip out the old rotten rubber. Insert the new rubber. Slip it into the channels, then insert your new rivets and flatten. Then, push the vent window pivot in to the new rubber. Attach the bottom nut washer and spring. Check to be sure that the window closes properly and them secure the top rivet.
Re-installation is the reverse of removal.
Enjoy the lack of a "whistle" while you drive.
Let me know if you need any clarifications.
