ANSWER check engine light 200 1989

Usually Check Engine lights don't go back off until the code is reset.

The Service reminder light, which must be the #1 oh-my-god call-the-dealer thing about these cars, is simply actuated by a clock that measures miles. I've been told it's 5000 miles and also that it's 10000 miles. I don't care; I pull the bulbs out so they can never bother me.

There's a reset lever on the rear of your instrument cluster. IF you were to reach up to about where the "3" is on the clock (or 6000 rpm if you have a tach) there's a plastic lever sticking out. Push up and it should click and reset the light.

Or remove the bulb and forget about it. It's pointless 15 years down the road; just service your car according to what its needs are.
