That engine is an interference engine ( i.e. if the timing belt breaks, valves and pistons meet )
Pull the timing belt cover and inspect the belt, if it looks good
pull the valve cover and put a socket on the crank pulley and see if the cams turn along with the crank ( cams turn at half the rotation of the crank, two rotations of the crank to one rotation of the cams ), if so and belt looks good, Check the ignition and fuel injection computers for error codes ( look in the faqs in the pulldown menue in the upper right hand corner for the procedure)
If T belt is good and nothing has actually locked up, change out the belts and tensioners immidiatly before driving it if the last t belt change is unknown, it's most likely overdue
