Not a 240 issue, but rather an intermediate update on the Eclipse in my tag line 200

The engine is FINALLY ALIVE! She ran for the first time and 8:42pm EST. 80PSI oil pressure at idle, 120PSI fuel pressure, all is good. Sorry to pollute the 200 forum, but heck, what a great feeling it is bringing a year long project back to life! Plastigauge is great, first time I've used it, but it told me what I had to know.

The Eclipse should be ready to go to the tuner early next week. Target is 360WHP, a 2x+ increase from the factory 103WHP from the factory 16 valve 2.4L four banger!

Oh, yes, new slugs, new aftermarket rods, larger valves, T3 AR60/48trim, Turbocoupe intercooler, and so on. If anyone is interested, I can post pics, but I hate to eat up Jarrod's hard drive space with Mitsu stuff!

Sorry folks, I get a little "wild" when a project nears its end!

Sounds scary fast, John. You should talk to my cousin - he took his turbo Eagle Talon and has spent rediculous amounts of money on building it as a tire shredder. I can't recall all he's done but I do remember such insanity as a kevlar timing belt.

He got the fuel computer chipped so he could remap with his laptop, he's busy tuning it in but estimates it's just shy of 400whp now. I'll see him this weekend, can't wait to go for a ride.

Sean:

This car has never been "scary", well, er, uh, except when the engine grenaded due to a failed injector while running 10PSI of boost! The early Talons are absolute monsters from the get go, a 2000 4 Cylinder Eclipse is more like a Ford Escort performance wise from the factory.

That being said, this engine was never designed to be boosted, I boosted it at 10PSI for 3 years, and it finally blew. Now I have done my best to build the bottom end and head to deal with the 15+ PSI boost. If all works out, with 10PSI of air in the front tires, I'm expecting a 5.5Sec 0 to 60 time. Please note, I'm not into quarter mile times, but rather a monster that handles well and can be "steered/controlled" by the gas pedal to get the road course job done!

Once this job is done and proven on the track, the next project will be the B230/B234 clone boosted engine for the 92 245! I can hardly wait, especially considering that the 245 handles better than the Eclipse!

Will do later today... just a couple more pieces of "bling" to put on it. BTW, this one does NOT reach the level of our 245... so don't get too excited!

S-P-H:

Sorry, I agree with the gruntled poster, this is not a "Volvo" issue. However, this setup is so similar to what I'm building for the new B230FT that it is highly applicable. In order to save Jarrod's HD space and bandwidth, here is a single link to a single off-site pic of the turbo setup. Hope this doesn't tick too many folks off!

Also note, that when I first posted this message, I was full of adrenaline... after spending so much time and effort on a project, hearing "Frankenstein" come to life just lit my "geek" fuse! Had to share my joy!

Jac912:

Sorry, no, I wish it was AWD, this car is a 2000 GS Eclipse so it is strictly FWD.
The "W" in "WHP" stands for Wheel, ie. how much power the car can actually put on the road.

At 200WHP, this car did 0 to 60 in 5.98 Seconds, I am very curious to find out what the "goal 360WHP" will do! I suspect traction will seriously limit improvements (being FWD), but heck, I built this car to be a road race machine... not a drag racer! I'm still working to set up track time at VIR so that a comparison can be made.

Thanks for the reply!
