NA Four transplant to a 262 Bertone 200 1980

Fellas:
OK, so I picked up a Bertone for few hundred $$. B28 with a BW55. Body is, impressively enough, rust free.I really don't like the B28 that's in there. It sucks up some gas and idles really rough. I finally decided that I'll put a Red block in there plus convert it also to an M46. The car is more of a project car and not a daily driver. I would like to be able to depend on the car if I do decide to take it for a ride though, and I don't think the B28 is up to that challenge. Just my opinion.
Now, the donor car: 1992 244 wagon, B230/AW71 at the junkyard. 160k miles on the odometer. The whole front end in great shape. Engine is pretty clean. While I was looking at it, I pulled the IPD swaybars. Cost me $40 for the set. OK, I think I digressed. My question is: what do I need to pull from the donor car to do the transplant? Is it gonna be painfully hard to marry the electrical/electronic stuff? This is the first and probably the only time I'll attempt such a feat so, please treat me as a complete idiot when it comes to details. I won't be offended. Heck, the more detailed, the better. I've been reading up about the conversion in the archives, but I'm still kind-a-confused. BTW, the M46 is on hand. A spare for my 1983 GL. Thanks a whole bunch in advance Bricksters.
Denny

Hey Denny,

Found your post so I figured that I would reply here.

The electricals on the 260 Series are really not that different from most 240's. Most of the interior intrument cluster wiring is wired the same with the exception of the 6 cyl or 4 cyl tach. Engine wise is a different story. The old B28 K-Jet Bosch Ignition system is nothing like the 92 B230F since Volvo went more electricals - sensors to help increase horsepower, mpg and and decrease emissions. In my opinion you would be better off grabbing everything electrical that is connected to the engine (harnesses, fuse blocks, wiring into the cabin) and the main harness that goes into the cabin to the fuse box - instrument cluster. Keep in mind that you also want to get the wiring for the engine diagnostic system that came with the 92 B230F so you could troubleshoot your engine in the furture if need be. Ideally you would need to have the DONOR CAR along side your PROJECT CAR in order to do a complete transplant and make sure you do not leave out anything. Everything will bolt up since the chassis are the same and the have holes pre-drilled for the engine mount - transmisson cross member mount. You might be able to get a packaged deal with the junk yard if you are able to purchase the entire DONOR CAR instead of just piece by piece.

I do have complete copies of the wiring diagrams for all years of the 260's so if you need me to scan some for you to compare some of the wiring differnces I could help you out there. It will take me a day or two but I can get them to you with little effort. I have thought about transplanting a another engine (possibly a B230FT) into one of my 260's but I must admit that I do like having the PRV V6 since they still run good. I do know that the gas mileage is not so good but I dont drive the car all that much... that is what the motorcycle is for. If you have any other questions just drop me a line and I will help anyway I can. Take Care!

Previous poster is correct - don't install an LH engine, use the K-jet earlier one, as it's a perfect match with the firewall plug.
You'll also have to install the pedal bracket and possibly drill the firewall hole for the clutch cable. I've done a few of these swaps, and sometimes the hole is there, sometimes not.
Preferably you should own the entire donor car. Going back and forth to the wreckers will be a huge inconvenience.

You don't want to do it that way. It'd be WAY easier to swap in a K-Jet 4.
