Blinkers not blinking 700 1990

Hello folks.

I have this 1990 760 Turbo that's been having electrical problems. Recently I checked all the fuses (we just bought it used a few months ago) and they were all across the board, some much higher and some much lower than they should be. Some previous owner laziness I guess.

Anyway, the latest issue is that the turn signals have suddenly stopped blinking. They come on (and off) but they don't blink. It's the same deal with the hazard warning. When pushed, all 4 signals come on but do not blink. I of course checked the fuses and they are good.

Per what Ive read, it also doesn't seem that there is any related relay in the car. I have no idea where to look. I much, much, much prefer to work on my 240 (which is not giving me any trouble at the moment). The inside of this 760 is falling apart.

Thanks for any help.

LeChuck, I'm looking at the Wiring Diagrams for the 1988 760's: in that year the flasher component for both turn signals and hazard warning is located in the hazard light switch. Since the flash component is all that's missing, I'd look into replacing the hazard switch. No guarantee that they didn't do something fancy between '88 and '90, but it's a place to start. I haven't had to attend to that particular component yet, but there's only 280K km on my machine, so perhaps any day now... I'd also consider replacing all fuses with the proper values, as a fuse of higher value just might be concealing another electrical problem.

Well.....it *was* the switch! Or more precisely the relay inside it. I found a cheap replacement on ebay and now the blinkers are working.

Thanks a bunch for steering me into that direction.

Now I need to figure out why the fuel gauge is not working...

Thanks gus_boy. I did not think of the switch but now that you mention it, when I activate the turn signal I hear a "click" around the hazard switch area, but just one click. I will try to take it apart and see if I can find something there. I already replaced the fuses when I realized most of them were the wrong one. Checked them one by one and replaced the ones that were off.

all of my 700s have had this problem from time to time. Usually all you need to do is pull out the ashtray and fusebox cover and then slide your hand in and wiggle the signal relay. If it is bad, all you need to do is pull out the radio to access it. Sometimes all I need to do is put a dab of conductive grease on the relay connectors. Check in the 740 FAQs for a picture of the relay locations or buy a service manual. The radio releases are located under the knobs, let me know if you need help there.
btw don't blow $50+ on a new relay, there are always ones on eBay for $10 !

Thanks sherm but my car is a 760. The fuse box is on the left side of the dashboard (conflicting information in books about that but that's where it is) and the car doesn't appear to have a relay for the turn signal (if someone can confirm).

it has to have a relay, blinkers need an intermittant electrical signal, and the realy is the switch. Let me check my manuals
