I really don't understand this "debate" there are multiple oil filter manufacturers, at wildly varying prices.

The manufacturer of the car supplies a filter, at a market competitive price, specced by a real R&D department. Life is too short to debate which is better, or worse, just go give the Volvo agent some money.
