Rear wiper woes S90-V90

Last fall, my 2 year old son killed the rear wiper on my wife's V90 in the most efficient/adorable way possible: He walked up to it, grabbed it with both hands and tried to use the wiper arm as a set of monkey bars (or tried to use it to climb up to the bumper). Whatever his intent, he got yelled at as much as I could yell at a kid not old enough to understand any better, and the wiper arm swung easily in all 360 degrees since then. I wasn't in too big a hurry, knowing that if I fixed it right away, the same thing would happen again in a week.

Well, now he's three years old and he has a bit more respect for cars. So I took the panel off to see what was busted. here's what I found:

1. the notched in the theaded bolt/shaft that turns the wiper arm were stripped. Easy fix.
2. on the inside of the panel, the two little drive shafts (between the long one and the pivot one for the wiper arm) had been forced beyod their stops, in an unnatualr position. Easy fix.
3. the wiper motor doesn't move at all (or make any noise for that matter). when I turn on the wiper, I can hear a switch in the wheel well trying to activate the motor, but there isn't asound coming from the wiper motor in door. I assume that like everything else in the wiper assembly, it got forced 90 degrees past it intended range. I disconnected the long main shaft in case somethign was binding and preventing its abaility to turn, but tha's not the case. The spindle is frozen in place. Is there anything I can do to fix it? Or should I just go out and buy another motor?

Please help.

Wow, with all the damage you describe, I would hot foot it to the junk yard or find a parts car on eBay and get the works.

Good Luck,

Bob

not really, number 1 and 2 were easy fixes.

1. it was stripped, but nothing a little little time with a file won't fix (and some tightening of the main bolt!)

2. the little bellcrnk arms that connect the long arm to the pivot weren't bent. They just went past their stop (whick is one of the rivet butts). I jsut put a little pressure on it with a flat-blade screwdriver and I was able to clear the rivet and set everything back to original. there was no damage to the stop, and it won't pass that point again unless i hang the weight of a 2-year-old off of it again.

The only damage I can see was to the motor. I guessing a gear got jammed inside there. It won't make a sound when you try to activate it. not even a wimper or a hum. Luckily, it's the same motor they used all the way back through the 740s, so there's no shortage on ebay.
