Just recieved new rear shocks for 89 244 boge saccks brand oe my question is
the shocks do not seem to have any lift is this normal ie are they passive?all shocks i have installed over the years have lift you push down new shocks to bottom and they dont rise is this normal since these 240s have coils and trailing arms? shold i call eeurope where i got them and have them replace?any help would be greatly appreacted

That's the design. I was working on the rear axle and pulled the one end of teh shock off.Same result so I thought I needed shocks , bought the new ones and they behaved the same. Well at 250K miles I guess I owed the car a set of new shocks anyway

I installed the same shocks on my '86 sedan last year and had the exact same concern. But they dampen perfectly as they are designed to do. I have wagon coil springs on mine and that helps with any sag when carring loads and brings the rearend up a little which I like the look of in profile.

Gas charged shocks are pressurized and will extend on there own but don't really "lift". Non gas shocks should resist or dampen as they are pulled or pushed but do not extend as does the gas charged shock. I believe the shocks you have are not gas charged. Dan

thanks for the info the 18 year old volvo shocks i pulled are then still in great shape will use for spares thanks again
