Clutch, Flange, and M40 vs. M41... 1800

In addition to what the other guys said. Be SURE you use the correct clutch plate, clutch and throwout bearing. I mixed them up, and had to pull my entire engine/gearbox in order to have any "clutch." For being a pretty simple mistake, it's very time consuming to correct...

I took a J-type from a 1971 1800E and installed it in a 1967 122S. The 71E gearbox had a 4.5" flange that did not fit my 3.5" driveshaft flange and I had to drop another $50.00 to find a correct sized flange (meaning I have a spare large flange if you are in need).

If you mean putting an M40 4-speed box into a 73... yeah.. you might *not* want to do that. No overdrive and your output flange won't fit and your driveshaft will be too short. A J-type M41 with overdrive is a much better choice...
