Is there any way to upgrade from the '74 3 speed auto to one from a newer one with O.D.?

Thanks.

AW 71's supposedly fit. i don't know if they retain the BW35 bellhousing though. if not, recall that the AW's mate to a slanted engine.

there are a handfull of people who have done the swap, in 122's as i recall, pour over the archives here.

also 74 BW35s, and probably '73 & '75s, are shorter in over all length than earlier versions. don't grab just any if you need to swap trans.

A better bet is a manual conversion, which is very straightforward if you can come up with a complete donor car. Overdrive (M41) is real nice if you can find one, but a plain old M40 is a big improvement over the sluggish, miserable 3 speed BW35.
