At some point, c. early-mid '80s, some 240's began to sport the front air dam. The air dam doesn't allow the solid rotors to cool properly. Cars with air dams had vented rotors and cars w/o had solid. At some later point (I'm thinking it coincides with the '86 restyling) all 240's featured a front air dam. Hence they also have, or should have, vented rotors. At least that's the way I have come to understand it.
