Annoying fuel problem 120-130

If I don't start the 122s after a week all the fuel from the lines goes into the tank and take some time for it to get pumped back into the lines and start the car. Any fix for this???

Annoying fuel problem 120-130

Two years ago my car had the same judder (121 w/stromberg carb). I set a toyota gas filter (the one ressembly a cup) between tank line and mechanical pump, it works also as a little gas reservoir on starting.

You might want to check and see if fuel is seeping from your float chambers.
There should be enough in the float chambers to start the car after one week
unless they are seeping or it is VERY hot.

Good call George!

If it was the pump, the engine should still start on the gas that's still in the float chamber(s) of the carburettor(s). Side draught Strombergs have a tendency to weep without actually dripping when the O-rings get old.

Is this really a problem? My '66 does the same thing and I just figured it was just a fact of life if the car sat for a week or so. Is having to run the starter for 5 or so seconds to get the fuel to the engine a bad thing?

Yes, you can rebuild the fuel pump (early style) and replace the "check" valves. Some early glass bowl fuel pumps had the valves held in place with a punch like retaining in the fuel pump body. Note the orientation of the valves before you remove them. Another solution and one that I must perform on my 1960 Amazon-S is to use the manual lever, below the fuel pump body, to essentially prime the pump and deliver fuel into the front SU-HS4 on my B16B. Hope this helps.

I have seen a Facet pump plumbed in parallel to the main pump with a toggle switch on the dash. It was used to start and run the car until the main pump was primed. This same car had an oil accumulator to prime the engine too. I guess it sat for very long periods of time between uses.
