Hazy Headlights and polishing, the improved version. 200

Hello,

I just posted the results of my purchase of a polish that removed the scratches from my wife's Fords headlights. I was very happy with the results and one of my neighbors who owns a local detail shop liked the results and went off to order some of the pads. He has tried many polishes and other tricks with varied results, but has never been totally satisfied with anything. By the way do this before you wash the car, because afterwards, you will need to wash the car.

The Detail guy says this is the best results he as see by far, and added another trick to extend the life of the pad. With his somewhat hesitant permission I am passing along the improved version of polishing out yellowed hazy lens. He got his hands on two boxes of the CCP Optical Polishing part number POL-100 that is 12 pads I think. The foam wheels are impregnated with this white powder stick on a pad that goes in a drill. You have to wet the surface and keep the headlight wet and follow the directions. He tried it on 90's model Chevy truck with really yellowed lens. He used almost three of the pads on the first light. The issue was the compound in the pad was loosing its polish ability before the light was restored. He started adding small amounts of plastic polish he already had to the center of the pad and keeping going with the same pad. Adding too much polish caused the first pad to come apart and fly off. But after a couple of refinements in adding smaller dots to just the center of the pad has able to completely remove all the yellow and turn the lens almost like new with just one pad. The polish added as the pad needed it was Blue Magic Plastic and Plexiglass Cleaner and they did the 2nd lens with just one pad. He said it took about 15 to 20 minutes of polishing per lens to get the results he was looking for. But the use of the extra polish to extend the pad life was a pretty sharp idea.

He followed that up with (and I got my hands on one of these) Blue Magic Metal Polish Creme. This a bright blue creme that has a strong ammonia kick when you open it up. It was what he brought over and to shine up my headlights last week. That is great stuff, even cleaned Inga's headlights with it along with the grill and they really have a good shine. Did the wifes AL rims also and really good results.

One warning also passed along some of the lens (and Volvo headlights have them), have bumps that will tear the pad up if you hit them during polishing.

I know the CCP pads cost $12 and the the Blue Magic Polish is about $5 now this was a freebie. Have no idea how much the Blue Magic plastic cleaner costs.

Saw the before and after pictures of four headlights that they did this weekend and the results are very good. Went from yellow to clear on all of them.

So if you can find the pads there is a good way to get the clear shine back on big plastic lens.

Regards,

PT
