The heater core in my '83 240 developed a pinhole leak too. I did not want to go to the expense and considerable effort required to replace it. Since the AC was not working, I by-passed the heater core and ran the coolant through the evaporator (after removing and plugging the temperature probe). The modification only required a few bucks and has been working well for over a year now -- plenty of heat!
