Sorry I forgot to check the pics before. Yes, I'd go for the new sender for sure. And I still think you'll find a hard plastic return line under that spring-clamped rubber. But I never saw one clamped that way so...

I've never had to buy a locking ring, or sealing ring for that matter. But better safe than pissed is a good rule I guess.
