How do you get stubborn water spots off glass/mirror? 200

When I say stubborn, I mean I've tried rubbing glass with water, Windex, and even WD-40. I'm just coming around to addressing an issue that I've been meaning to address. My car's passenger-side front and rear windows plus the side mirror have terrible water spots that look like the previous owner had wash his car but then forgot to rinse so that the water or suds got baked onto the glass over time. At night it makes the side mirror almost useless. The passenger-side mirror has a bluish tint with a small round mirror. Short of buying a new side mirror, is there anything I can do to rid the spots?

Bonus question: Did all 240 models come with blue-tinted pass-side mirror?

Thanks, guys! Some interesting solutions. I'll have to try the vinegar one since it's the most readily available and the cheapest. I also have a bottle of Turtle Wax chrome polish, gotta try that one next. I'm a bit hesitant about spending over $5+ for a commercial glass cleaner, but may have to go there if vinegar or the chrome polish doesn't work.

A product called Liquid Glass works well for all but the windshield. Also brings a
new gleam to your paint job by removing oxydation. $21.00 at Autozone and can be ordered online at www dot liquidglass dot com.

Semi-chrome polish. Used it recently to shine up some chrome 140 mirrors and got curious - tried it on the mirror glass and it worked wonders!

I have used BonAmi cleanser, it never scratches. And white tooth pase, also known as jewler's rouge, which is an abrasive but will not harm glass. I also use tooth paste to clean off scratches on my wrist watch.

The blue tint reduces glare from high beams.

Klaus,

I've used glass polish and 0000 steel wool. As strong-pimp-hand said thats 4 zeros. If you use some of the other stronger solutions be sure to protect your paint.

Vinegar may work, depending on what minerals are in your water. Neither vinegar (acetic acid) or CLR (hydrochloric acid) works on waterspots in my town.

If acids don't work, fine steel wool or rubbing compound should do it.

Best I have found is an abrasive powder called "Nothin's Better" microllite polish. I got it at the Toyota dealer for $4. Bottle says it is made by Watkins of Sacramento 800-668-2887. My 8oz bottle is probably 10 years old and is still 3/4 full. A little goes a long way. No idea if this stuff is still available.

there are a couple of ways:

1) http://www.windows101.com/shop/index.php?cPath=48&osCsid=c60038f1032a21c23e64f3f35471b7c1

2) as suggested, vinegar (w/ #4 below)

3) CLR stuff that removes hard water deposits and a WHITE scothbright pad (fow glass only).

4) 0000 (that's 4 zeros) steel wool -the window cleaner's secret.

Plain white vinegar. You can put it in a spray bottle, or (if that doesn't help) put some vinegar-soaked rags directly on the affected area.

Green, too!
