Help on Fault Tracing Power Transmission 200 1977

Good morning from New Mexico everyone.

I have a 1977 Volvo 264 Grande Luxe, which I paid $500 for.
The other problem is that after I replaced the motor with a rebuilt B23 and rebuilt M46, a sort of a "slipping" or loss of wheel power has developed when I apply heavy torque. It feels just like it would when the rear tires lose traction. I've driven the car for about a year now.

I did all of the motor and tranny work myself and I really would like to fix this beautiful car. My father says its time to junk it and I already got my money's worth. The tranny shifts smooth with the new bearings and syncros and the motor has really good compression with the new rings, about 140 psi all around.

Do I need a rear axle, could the overdrive be faulty? Will any axle fit from 76-93?

Any help will be truly appreciated.

Slipping traction with a standard tranny sounds like it needs a clutch.
Or maybe a clutch cable adjustment, if it has a cable.

Did you replace the clutch when you rebuilt the tranny?
    How long ago?

There was a thread here a couple weeks ago posted by a guy considering buying a 260 series. You should read that for its information on the V6 engine failure modes.

Sven you're right, it sounds like a clutch problem, but I installed a brand new clutch kit. The clutch is tight, you let it out and it'll throw you forward, stalling the motor QUICK. The problem only occurs when torquing the driveline. If I throttle her up and let the clutch out slowly, like if I were trying to burn out, then it'll happen, but instead of the tires spinning the power is somehow wasted. Sometimes it'll happen if I make a sharp turn and then give her gas it'll do it then too.

Thanks for any help, in advance.

    I'd guess it's the Overdrive (caling Duane) 200 1977

By putting "Overdrive" in the subject line, we may attract the attention of the OD Guru (Duane Hoberg).

But I think he'll want to know of it's in or out of OD when the slipping occurs.
