1990 volvo rides crappy 200

hi, driveing to work. when i hit bumps, car seems to go BOOM BOOM! feels like no suspention. also i run down the driveay and hear a squeaking when the car dips down. i can bounce the vehical very little. i hear a hiss when i push down on the rear but front i don't. do i need shocks and springs all around? would poor shocks make it squeak and flop over the road? i can c that my balljoints and tierods are ok.

    squeak 200

Our wifemobile had a major squeak in the front suspension. It was the rear bushing in the front A-arm, left side of car.

The first mechanic to check it had said it needed new front struts + strut mounts which is a major job. Buddy mechanic said the squeak was the a-arm bushing; turned out he was right. A much easier job.

    Hello,

Sounds definitely like at least the rear shocks need replaced. When you push down on the rear or the front and suddenly release, how does the vehicle respond?

That or bushings. If the shocks are original, they are shot. Time to replace them, which can be done quite cheaply if you like. You can find shocks anywhere from $20 each to $120. KYB Gas-a-just shocks are a remarkable value for the money and will work well for several years.

As for bushings - there is plenty of info already on Brickboard about that. There's a good chance yours are worn. Do some searching. The worst culprit for a clunky ride would be the trailing arm bushings, I believe. And the control arm bushings in the front. Might want to start replacing them.

Well, even FCP has KYB rears for $28, and I believe Pep Boys carries even cheaper Monroe shocks. I'd stick with the KYBs, at least - Dad has them on his 245, they were pretty good for several years, now kinda shot.

My TAB (trailing arm bushings)are shot, and make a clicking noise over some bumps. It takes a special tool (press) to chnge them out. scorron has it right. Rear shocks and bushings (10 in the rear end), most likely the torque rod bushings (4) and the TABs (2).
