1990 volvo rides crappy 200

That or bushings. If the shocks are original, they are shot. Time to replace them, which can be done quite cheaply if you like. You can find shocks anywhere from $20 each to $120. KYB Gas-a-just shocks are a remarkable value for the money and will work well for several years.

As for bushings - there is plenty of info already on Brickboard about that. There's a good chance yours are worn. Do some searching. The worst culprit for a clunky ride would be the trailing arm bushings, I believe. And the control arm bushings in the front. Might want to start replacing them.
