Nissens radiator 200 1983

Just put in a Nissens radiator, Wahler tstat, and noticed that the temp plug, which in my car doesn't hook up to anything, has a slight leak. I just screwed in the plug prior to putting the radiator in. The radiator did not come with a gasket or o-ring to seal this connection.

So can I seal the plug connection w/out draining the coolant, letting connection dry-or do some sort of partial drain to lower the coolant level and then put liquid gasket/o-ring to stop the leak?

TIA

Todd
