Which model GM blower motor can I use? 700

Now that all of the blood and mucus has drained back out of my head from being upside down for 30 mins in the cold LOL, I got my first Volvo Blower motor out after dealing with that last 5th screw in the back. Does anyone know which model GM motor is a replacement for the blower motor from the 87 740? Im going to go to Napa, but wanted to grab the correct one tomorrow. I have been messing with this older Sweedish Version and its a nice one compared to my American models.Dig temp guage, oil pressure gauge etc. Now though my blower just went out and melted the fuse, now as of today I am not even getting the warm air coming from the vents or defroster area either. Normally at freeway speeds I could feel warm air, even with no blower... Things that make you go hmmmmm.

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND GUYS

Which model GM blower motor can I use? 700

I replaced mine a year ago and it began to fail again already.
I purchased the one for the 84 citation but never put it in.
Instead I first drilled a small hole in the bottom of the plastic housing that collects water and causes the moter to fail due to the lower bearing rusting in the puddle of water. I the generously lubed up the lower bearing on the old motor and it has been working well for some time.

Which model GM blower motor can I use? 700

Had the same experience on our '87. A year ago last fall, replaced the original blower motor that was noisy. Last summer, the new one (not Volvo/Bosch) started screaming. Yes, it's a spine twister, snot drainer/plugger, ain't it? Found the bottom bearing rusting with obvious water presence. Didn't think of drilling a drain hole. DUH! Oh well. But thanks to the accessibility through the cooling hose hole, I generously lubed the bottom (and top) bearing, leaving a small oil puddle for the lower bearing. BTW, that back screw is accessible with a flexible drill driver extension from Harbor Freight. It's about 6" long and a hugemongous help. But aren't we thankful they changed the blower cage design from our wonderful 240s?! Those who've been THERE, know... Hours and piles of parts on the garage floor compared to the spine twister and 30 minutes or so. I do count our blessings for that!

I replaced my blower motor this morning with this 27.00 part 700

Hey,

Just this morning I replaced my blower motor with a Siemens Blower Motor Part No. PM129. 26.99 at Autozone, they had it in stock.

I had to modify the plastic shroud holding the stock motor (I cut the bottom of the plastic 'cup' off so the Siemens motor housing could protrude a few mm)., and it only had a single lead instead of a dual which meant I had to attach a ground lug to the Siemens chassis and pigtail the groundwire to that.

Works well; strong, nice and quiet, haven't had any conflagrations erupt (yet).

Oh, BTW, my car is a 1990 740 GL Sedan. May not fit other models.

Which model GM blower motor can I use? 700

Hi

I lost GM blower motor part # but it came from NAPA BUT BE AWARE I HAVE A 1990 760 TURBO WAGON with climate control which has a wider blower plastic fan wheel .
If you do not have a wagon or auto climate control I think the four seasons from NAPA will work cost more BUT A BETTER FIT WITH NO NOISE NARROW FAN WHEEL

I had to cut and modify the mount and the GM motor makes a lot of wistle sound .
The orginal volvo blower motor is not available for VOLVO WITH CLIMATE CONTROL.

Which model GM blower motor can I use?(found it) 700

I found one at Advance Auto Parts for a 1987 Chevy Celebrity for $17.00

which one? 700

Thanks for the heads up on Advance. I checked there online site and it lists two cheapoblowr motors without fans. One is for the Celebrity with AC and one for those without it. Do you know which you got, or the Advance part number?

And is it obvius how to exchange the fan cage from one motor to the other or are there any tricks for that?

Thanks

The one that I picked up is for the model with AC. The number was 35588. It was a perfect fit, but I have to find out why I only have my high blower motor speeds working. there have been a few threads out there, so i will see if I can figure it out. Just make sure to take your time with the cage, as to not break the fragile plastic when removing the cage from the old blower. Also save yourself a huge headache of trying to get to the 5th screw holding the blower motor in by removing the computer and mounting bracket.

Cheers,

One speed is a classic sign of a bad resistor pack. And a bad motor will often overload the resistor before the blower dies. Check the FAQ, but my recollection is that the 740s blower resistor is right in there by the blower somewhere. (Please don't curse me if it turns out you have to remove that fifth screw again.)

Thanks for the detail on the blower. I don't need one now, but with two 740s and a 940, I may get one as insurance while the getting is good.

You were wise to be gentle with the fan cage while removing it from the old motor and installing it on the new one. It is brittle 20 year old plastic. I've seen them heavily encrusted with caked on dirt. If yours is like this, it is a good idea to wash it while its apart. Note that there may be one or more small balancing clips at various places on the cage. You want to avoid dislodging them. When installing the cage onto the new motor, don't just drive it on with a hammer if its a tight fit. This can damage the bearings. Instead, sand down the shaft until the cage slides on with a moderate amount of resistance.

Is the 87 Celebrity the only GM fan that will fit a 740? It seems to me that this part will likely soon become unavailable---discontinued due to low demand. When was the last time you saw a Celebrity on the road??? I see a lot more 740s nowadays---the Chevys just don't hold up like a Volvo.
