Pics, Please! 120-130

Sorry for the delay....

Here are the pics and some notes on the install...

The traces are wider than you see on cars normally, but that's probably because they're delicate and can break if you're not careful when peeling off the backing paper. Getting them to line up properly on the curved glass was a pain, and I ended up cutting up the sheet into several pieces to allow the tracings to get slightly closer together at the ends than at the middle. You don't notice it unless you look for it, but its there (check the detail of the bus bar pic and look between the 5th and 6th trace down for the most noticeable one). To get this to work I mocked it all up with a roll of craft paper, marked the necessary cuts and then transfered it to the sheet with the tracings. Marking the glass on the outside with a sharpie helped too.

Next, pick a warm day to do it. It was ~45F when I did it and keeping everything warm enough to stick properly with an electric space heater was a pain. This is especially evident in the detail of the bus bar, where you can see the foam peeling away a bit. Most likely I'll fix this come Spring. I was in a bit of a hurry as it got cold enough to need a defroster and since its my daily driver, I kinda didn't have an option to wait on the install.

The bus bars as shipped will absolutely not fit where I placed them. To get it to fit the 122 rear window I mocked the shape I needed with cardboard, cut the brass bus bars to match and then soldered them back together again. The plastic covers had to be modified the same way as well, minus the part about the soldering. Then the whole thing had to be bent by hand to match the vertical curve of the window, which wasn't so easy and partly responsible for mine peeling away a bit. This could all be avoided by not extending the defroster to the edges of the window as I did, but I didn't want to create a blind spot where it wouldn't defrost. I suppose it might also be possible to skip the bus bars altogether and use some of the leftover tracing material to make the connections, but making the connections might be difficult and there might be too much current for the tracing to handle (its not a single tracing zigzagging back and forth, but rather 3 in parallel going back and forth). Maybe if you used 3 or 4 traces on the vertical sections? But then you'd still need two small sections of bus bar for the wiring push connector, so maybe not worth the effort.

Finally, it just so happens that the slots in the switch bracket exactly match the bolt holes under the heater control in the dash, so that's where I put it. Due to an ongoing project of chasing down leaks in both the front and rear windshields I haven't yet gotten around to tidying up the wiring yet, as you can probably tell from the inside pic.

And of course, take your time, measure twice, etc.....

The end result works fantastic and doesn't look overly bad... to me at least. ;-)
