Since you are talking about diesels it would be fun to know wich country you are moving to?
Here in sweden you will have to pay 3 times the roadtax compared with a same year petrol car if were talking diesel cars without particle filtration (= most diesels older than 2004)
So i would advise you to check these taxes in the contry you are moving to.
Here in sweden you would have to drive more than 40000 miles per year to benefit from the lower liter price on the diesel because of the roadtax.
So please check out the laws and taxes regarding diesel cars in the country your moving to.
The milage i wrote (40000 miles) is depending of how many miles/liter you get out of the car you are buying and therefor could be lower.
For how long did they sell 940:s in the us? the last year in sweden is -98 an the last two years (i think) it was sold with a low pressure turbo version of the b230 ( about 150 hp) called 940S, -95 and up (i think again :-) the car was sold whit an 136 hp engine without turbo but with a different kind of cylinderhead and cam to up the hp:s from 116 to 136 still the b230.
-95 and upp also came with a new 5 speed gear box called m90, an all aluminum one.
2000 dollar is the same as 12000 sek and for about twice that amount you wold get a 745 with resonable milage in sweden.

It all depends on how yor emotional ties are to your old car. :-)
Please ask again if there is more you want to know, i will check in here again.
welcome to europe :-)

Edit:
If you are intrested in awd or fwd volvos i bought my V70 turbo -98 2 months ago for 53000 sek with 15000 km on the speedo almost fully equiped (no sunroof and only half leather interior)
About shipping you old brick here i don`t think it`s wort it, sell the old one and add the 2000 you saved on the shipping and you will get a nice one here instead.
