Need help with cruise control diagnostic problem 200 1993

Cruise not working. Things I have done so far:

1. Vaccum servo under dash holds air.
2. I put 12v to pump with wire to battery and it is functional.
3. The switch itself is less than 2 years old.
4. Fuse is patent.

What should I check next? I have an ammeter. Thoughts?

Don't use an ammeter, use a DVOM. Here is a horsed up schematic:

I have not measured this, only looked at the drawing to determine how it works. I think it should be accurate but I can't garauntee it.

I would guess it has something to do with brake lights as Herb has said - cruise will not operate unless it gets a signal (or lack of a signal, not sure which) that the brake pedal is not being depressed. Have you checked fuses? For me it was a flaky ground in the hatch hinges that was the problem. Brake light worked when I checked them, then on the highway, the ground must have failed and I had no cruise - fooled me for awhile.

Mr. Zork,

Have you checked the Vacuum Valves ( pedal valves ). They may need to be adjusted or maybe def. They have an electrical connection that need to be tested also.

Good luck,

Ron J.

Do your brake lights work? If they don't the cruise won't either.

Yeah Herb, I checked the lights and they are fine. I thought it might be that big red sensor as well.

Swap the one from your '93 in and you'll know in short order-- the one in my '92 went bad, and set the light even when the bulbs were new and matched.

Good luck!

In my 93 240, where exactly is the bulb out sensor located?

IPD has a description of the bulb integrity sensor at :
http://ipdusa.com/Volvo-200/Electrical/Lighting-&-Lenses/Bulb-Integrity-Sensor/p-69-257-263-375/

I haven't looked for it myself. The diagram in the IPD catalog puts it on the driver's side under the dash.

I have depressed it several times to no avail. I guess I was fishing for what wires to test with my ammeter and what the measurements would tell me.
