i have been getting parts off this car (1990 240 wagon) for a while and i know as of a few days ago the header pipe was in excellent shape complete with mounting hardware to the bell housing.
it is a volvo original and the car has 198k miles on it.
when i have done this job in past i always bought ahead of time 3 fresh copper coated nuts and 3 fresh studs just in case.
there are 2 schools of thought on removal. unbolt and disconnect the hear from manifold after unbolting it from the cat and removing OR unbolting the exhaust manifold and removing the header/manifold as 1 unit.
the 2nd option is much easier IF you think you will have trouble with the header to manifold nuts or studs from rust or breaking off. with the manifold off the car it is a snap to unbolt and rebolt the header from manifold EVEN if you have big time trouble.
if the header to manifold nuts come right off and the studs are good then leave the manifold on the car. however if those 3 nuts/studs look like trouble then before you start order 8 fresh xhaust studs and 8 fresh nuts just in case you have to remove the manifold from the head.
