Stalling on the freeway in HOT weather 700 1986

My 760 would die after about 30 minutes of driving in hot weather. If you stepped on the gas too hard it would all of a sudden just hiccup, as if fuel flow had stopped briefly and continue - this would worsen until it would just die. The in-tank pump was bad, but before replacing it, I fixed the hiccup issue by just pulling the fuse from it. I have a feeling that the bad pump was stressing the main pump relay enough to cause it to start flaking out.
