is it my starter, solenoid...how do I check? 900 1997

With a test light,ck for voltage at the small wire on the starter with key in start position.You will need an assistant.If no voltage is present,jumper the battery wire to the solenoid terminal(big terminal to small)with a screwdriver.
If starter operates in this position,the PNP switch is defective.Its replacement is covered in the FAQ.
