Fuel filters - How good are they? 200 1978

This is a side question to my real problem - fuel delivery issues. It's possible (likely?) that my fuel injectors have been contaminated by sediment or particles from the fuel tank and/or degraded fuel lines. Before I simply throw new injectors at the problem, do I need to resolve any fuel tank issues or will the new fuel filter catch the contaminants? If the fuel injectors solve the problem I would replace the rubber gas lines and deal with the tank in some way, shape, or form but I would like to make sure the car runs okay before I dump a lot of time/money into it. Thx!

Good idea to replace the original fuel lines with new injector quality lines at the same time you replace the filter.
If you question the injectors, have them cleaned at a fraction of the cost of new. http://www.cruzinperformance.com/ is reasonable and good.
