'89 740GL not starting 700

I have an 89 740gl, which I believe is a B230F. It's not starting, and not making much noise when I try and start it. There is a little whirring noise, but I'm not sure if it's related. I know about the starter ignition prevention dealio, but I'm not sure if it's what I think it is, or how to mess with it to get the car to start.

I took a quick video, about a minute long, of me trying to start it. I can make another video any time, of whatever would be helpful in diagnosing this. Just say the word.

Is your battery dead or terminals corroded? Try a jump start.

Since I really couldn't hear anything. Try jumpering across the starter terminals, if it fires up, then suspect neutral safety switch. It is what you described.

Could I get a quick description of where the terminals are?

Not to insult you in anyway, but find a mech or a friend who is a mech. But now have to agree with fixit. I assumed you have a good battery, or at least tried to jump start it first. And just because the lights, radio, etc all work, doesn't mean your battery is any good.

Hello,

The terminals are on the starter itself. Try running a wire from the positive battery post to the flag terminals on the starter.

Good Luck!!!

I didn't even hear the solenoid click ... perhaps the solenoid is bad or one of the wires is off the solenoid .....

Two of the three solenoid terminals produced fireworks when I tried to ghetto start it. Did not start with pos to pos terminal.

Could it still be the starter lockout switch?

When you jumper across the starter, that is bypassing the neutral safety switch.

Hi,

You should remove the two wires from the starter itself. Not the fat red one or the braided one though.

Then try to "Ghetto Start" it again.

Good Luck!!
