Cruise control trouble shooting. 200 1989

Hi -

Was looking as some old posts and found this thread on your CC. Didn't see one saying that you got it working, so here's another tip:

Under the dash, where all the pedals are, is where you say there was a vacuum hose connected to nothing. That is likely the problem.

There is a long hose coming in from the engine bay. If yours is a factory install, it might be coming in close to where the steering shaft penetrates. If an after-market or dealer-installed CC system, no telling.

That hose connects to a "T", one branch to the servo controlling the gas peal, the other branch to a valve behind the brake pedal.

If you are in manual tranny, there is another "T" in the hose to the brake pedal valve, allowing for a branch to a valve behind the clutch pedal.

With vacuum all working OK, when CC is engaged the controller in the engine bay gets a signal from the "brain" telling it how much vacuum to apply to the servo on the gas pedal.

If you step on the clutch pedal the valve behind it opens, breaking the vacuum applied to the gas pedal servo. If you step on the brake pedal, not only is the vacuum "dumped" but the ground connection for the "brain" is broken, so the CC system is dropped out. Quickly.

Hope this helps. Let us know.

Good Luck,

Bob
