1989 240DL dies when put in reverse 200 1989

Starts up fine, but when put in reverse car dies.

The engine just quits bang! That indicates to me an electrical problem.

Need to know which tranny you have, manual or autobox? Somethng in the process of getting/being in reverse is doing something it is not supposed to do, and the different trannys do reverse in different ways.
