That is correct to a point, I just looked at my spare clutch cable. The "lock nut" is what rides on the spiraled cable sheathing and threads into the "plastic barrel". The plastic barrel clamps down on the split lock nut to maintain the adjustment although the friction on the cable sheathing is not all that much. Dan.
