sealing new sport exhaust joints 200 1987

I just installed a sport exhaust from IPD, and I can feel all of the joints leaking. How much do you have to torque the clamps to get them to seal, and is there something that I should do to get them to seal better, besides cranking on the clamps really hard? (I prefer a method that avoids taking the whole thing apart again! :) )
Thanks

Try using Wurth Exhaust Assembly Paste. Recommended by several manufacturers.

IPD recommends joint sealer upon install. I used it on my sport exhaust with no trouble, nice low rumble and a little extra get up and go on my 88 240 5-speed

Tighten; drive it a bit; retighten; etc. I have this problem sometimes. Eventually it goes away.

The HD clamps let you apply more torque

If they're the crappy U-bolt clamps, then I like to tighten, rotate, then tighten again. I prefer the band style clamps you can buy because they put more even pressure all the way around the pipe rather than deforming one small section.

This is a good question. I have a tube of this exhaust pipe sealer stuff, I wonder if that would work to put on teh pipe before you slide them together and clamp them down. But we really need an experienced person's opinion.
