Instrument lights out Volvo 122 not all of them! 120-130

So folks here it is... My instrument lights went out i my dear Volvo 122 all but the lights over the heater control? I switched fuses, replaced fuse box with a new one... What are the odds of almost all lights failing at the same time? A week earlier the flashers and hazard light went? I'm stuck in the dark and can't afford to get pulled over in such a state. any and all advice would be much appreciated!

Cheers

There are two bulbs in the speedometer cluster that get power from a dimmer in the headlight switch. The bulb for the heater controls is not on the dimmer, so it's a separate circuit.

First off, try turning the headlight switch knob back and forth a bunch of times and see if cleans up the dimmer -- often works. If you can't get them on that way, connect the wire to the speedo lamps to the terminal on the switch that feeds the heater control light. You won't be able to dim the speedo, but you'll be legal.

      Excellent advice from Phil.

This happened to me once in my old 64. My connections were corroded and caused the whole panel lighting to go kaput. I wiggled the knob and it would go back on. Eventually I did have to replace it (and you may too and to get you home, just re-wire as Phil instructed).

      Good luck getting home.
