Any year bw 35 140-160 1971

I do know that there is a difference (length) between early and late 35's. Early ones (long tail) have no external cooler--they use an air cooled torque converter. The later ones (short tail) have an oil cooler section in the radiator and a normal looking torque converter. I don't think it would make any difference as far as the shifter--maybe you'll need to switch the lever on the transmission. The '74 transmission will require an external cooler--I can't recall if the '71 has that.
