Start with fluids(fuel,oil,coolant)fuel must be combustible and while looking for the root problem you must be sure to keep the engine lubricated and not overheat it.I have a feeling that you have ignition or wiring problems(plugs,cap,rotor,wires,timing belt)but be sure to add to the check list restricted or clogged fuel filters or exhaust system.
