Hello
i leave the crank pulley and intermediate gear on and even the bottom t-belt cover, clamp off the belt so it dont move on said gears and just remove the cam gear then pull the cam. i follow bentleys procedure on removing the cam caps.
there is a good chance your shims will be within specs.
of course you might want to go ahead and do t-belt, seals, water pump, tensioner, drive belts.
