I certainly am a "soul mate' (of the non-sexual variety) with you :-) .... 200 1985

re: "...Actually, I don't know why I needed the temp gauge, since I am running synthetic oil, and do not ever abuse the car.... but I had it, and the Turbo gauge, coupled with the fuel economy gauge was somewhat redundant. It does a good job of filling the hole in the cluster, and not everyone has the temp gauge, so while not being unique, it is less than commonplace...."

Hey, I'm with you! I can't seem to own a car without doing something to make it unique, and rationalize that it makes it better: not only my gauges (which you've seen), and Euroheadlights, and grille mounted DRL's, side-fender turn signals, and LED front parking and tail/brake lights (if you remember my article in Rolling and posts), and rewiring my aux. fan control (another Rolling article), and IPD sway bars, tower-to-tower and tower-to-firewall braces, and Hydra wheels with Michelin Exalto tires, and GPS, and 4 horns, and ATF aux. cooler, and screened snow caps, and .... etc. -- see the pictures below). I just can't leave a car stock. So you don't ever have to explain yourself to me -- no reasons are necessary!

All I was saying about suggesting calibrating the gauge is that while you can get to know how YOUR car behaves (oil temps, etc. -- how it fluctuates in different situations), it isn't really useful to compare readings with others unless you know that both readings (yours and the other person's) are actually comparable. Otherwise, you may be comparing "apples and oranges", or in other words possibly a high reading gauge with a low reading gauge (by chance) and that will only leave you worrying over what may really be nothing at all. But aside from that, enjoy your handywork!

Anyway, here's some of mine just to show you that you and I think alike :-) :
