Radio Speaker(s) issue 200

Hello again, I hope everyones Holiday was great, pleasant and relaxing.
Hoping the new year brings many smiles and much relaxing.

Now, to my radio/speaker issue.
I have a 89 240 with stock radio which I am going to keep.
Lately the speakers have been coming on and off for no apparent reason.
But, when I turn the radio off and then on right away the speakers are
normal for a while then do it again. The driver side speaker did it more
often so I had the tuner turned to the passenger side speaker, but lately
it is doing it often also.

Could it be the amp. that is going out?

I suspect it is wiring, but what gets me is that it resumes normally when
switched off and on again, that makes me think it is the not wiring. I usually
think that wiring issues will be more likely when hitting bumps or on turns
but this happens just whenever it wants too.

The thing is that I don't want to open up the amp. area and/or pull the radio
out if it is more likely the other that is causing the problem.

Thanks in advance,
Joseph Segura in New Mexico

I had similar problems. Only it was everything that would fade away to nothing . Not just one speaker. It was the amp and the radio in my case. When I turned the radio on it would burp loudly in the front speakers signalling a shorted amp. I replaced the amp. Wrecker charge me $30 for the amp and it cured the problem. Then I started losing FM only. I took the radio apart and found all the ground solders on the board were bad. I fixed some of them but it continued. I bought another radio from the wreckers. He ripped me off again and charged me $40 and I have a functioning crappy radio again. For $20 more I should have thrown it all away and bought a cheap CD player. Santa brought me one this year. Yay

Kenner,
Santa was good to you.
I want to keep original and just play mp3 through the cassette deck.
I guess I will open up the amp area first, I have an extra amp that
I got with a radio at the recycling yard.
If anyone knows any better ideas, please do let me know.

tHIS EXACT SCENARIO HAPPENED ON MY '89. tEH cr714 RADIO
Soory about CAPS LOCK

I took the radio appart and after removing the Cassette section out, there is a connector in the back where the two Circuit boards connect. There was a bad connection at the connector. flex the circuit board and it played, let it go and nothing.

After soldering the connectors direct, it worked for a month, then pooped again. I finally went with a cheapy replacement that plays so much nicer then the Stock one ever did.
