How to fix busted odometer? 200

OKAY I JUST COMMITTED TO BUYING AN 86 245! woo hoo for me. thing is: the lady selling it swore it had just 197K miles on it, which the odometer rings true. yet test driving it today i learned that this is some kind of quantum mechanical position of opinion, as the odometer does not actually move when watching it during a drive down the road (eyes were mostly on the roadway, however). going over the maintence records, it is revealed that it's been broken for about 18 months, but luckily (no) former owner only drove it like 4K per year or something, so it's not too far off and i can assume that i'm buying a car with similar mileage.

anyways, how can i fix this? can i take the odomoter out and manually mess it back to working order, or do i have to find a replacement somehow? What would YOU do?

THANKS SO MUCH!!!

How to fix busted odometer? 200

I just bought a gear from Odometer Gears LTD. and put it in last weekend. It took me an hour from disconnecting the battery to going for a test drive. I recommend buying the gear from these guy's. Paul Driver of Inga provided you all the info you need!

    Here's another good site.

Not hard to do at all, here are the links 200

You know how to use a couple of sizes of Phillips head screwdrivers. Then remember what color wire goes where on the back of the cluster, and you are ready to go in.

You can click on the underlined names to go the the websites, and I am not affiliated with any of these websites, but I sure as heck have used them all.

I highly recommend Odometergears, this guy makes a hard as heck little gear that fits perfectly and will most likely last as long as the car does. You want the 25 tooth gear since you have a 86 model.

Then you can go to either of two of my favorite places to find help, Dave Shannon's or Art's Cleanflametrap and read up on what you need to do. Be careful with to pull the entire board back when getting to the gear. That little motor assembly can come off and that will slow you down if it does. Take the entire board loose.

If you are new to the BB, you will find all sorts of good 240 stuff on both Art's and Dave's websites.

Hope this helps get you started.

    Regards,

    Paul
